Market’s lunch menu announces first thing:

Market is committed to serving only fresh, all-natural, unprocessed foods and features select products from Animal Welfare Approved farms. We are proud to support many local farmers, including: Ben’s Produce, Captain John S. Pope Farm, Rare Earth Farms, Long After Farms, Saltwater Seafood, and Wells Pork and Beef.

Market takes the farm to table thing seriously. I’m sure there is a substantial increase in cost and time to make it that way, but the dividends are worth it. The freshness in the ingredients is plain to see.

I tried the kale chips, the sweet potato latkes and the marinated tofu burger. All were excellent. The kale chips were simply that: pieces of kale that were crispy like potato chips. The tofu burger was done beautifully. A lot of places seem to have a hard time with tofu, but Market got it right. The texture was perfect and the spicy taste made it a great burger substitute.

Now, I am pretty discerning about all things potato latkes, and Market’s latkes were fantastic. They were probably the best sweet potato I’ve had in any setting and also the best latkes. The latkes were made with fresh green onions and served with a curry tofu creme. This is not the condiment I am accustomed to, but it really worked.

The server was polite, knowledgeable and very attentive. All said, it was a very pleasant lunch experience.

Market is close to downtown, but out of the way, behind Peace College, nestled in a residential section of the Mordecai neighborhood. It is worth going out of the way for.
