I recently had the pleasure of visiting Chubby’s Tacos for the first time. I went to the Wycliff Road location off of Lake Boone Trail.
For the sake of this review, I tried both the ground beef crunchy taco ($2) and the chicken soft taco ($3). Either one would have been enough for lunch.
Both tacos were a bargain and were excelente. The crunchy tortilla was just that, fresh and crunchy. The soft tortilla was equally good and, in hind-sight, the better choice to grab a hold of the roughly 1/3 pound of chicken they gave me.
Chubby’s has a very laid-back atmosphere and a very, very causal decor. Though not authentic Mexican by any stretch, I found the tacos to be superior to most other places in Raleigh, except Dos Taquitos.
I visited Chubby’s Tacos at 1 pm on a Thursday. There were about seven people in line ahead of me. It took about five minutes to order and five more to get my food. A short wait, but worth it.
Cubby’s is definitely a place to consider if you are looking for a good, relatively fast lunch in the Rex Hospital area.
