Gravy

I had a pleasant dinner at Gravy. I tried the arugula salad with pine nuts and the “Family Gravy” entree, pennette pasta, meatball, hot sausage, sweet sausage, veal braciole, and house-made ricotta.

The arugula salad – with pine nuts, lemon and olive oil – was simple and refreshing. The “gravy” (red sauce) is everything that Gravy builds it up to be; a complex flavor, well-seasoned but not spicy. The four meats provided a nice contrast of flavors and textures. The ricotta tasted exceptionally fresh.

Gravy’s interior has an urban feel. Located on Wilmington Street in a space that is long and narrow with high ceilings, Gravy had an ambiance that was the best of both worlds. I was clearly near the buzz of downtown in an historic Raleigh building, but with a warm, contemporary interior.

I can imagine coming back to Gravy again and enjoying dinner and a good red wine with a few friends.
