October movie releases include an all-star cast in “Bad Times at the El Royale” and a wide variety of genres of movies.
This list is as complete as possible, but any given movie’s release schedule is subject to change, and movies with limited release may not make it to Raleigh in October. Nonetheless, there are several limited release movies worth looking out for in the future on Netflix and other carriers.

A Star is Born
Bradley Cooper, stars, directs and co-writes this remake of the 1937 film. Lady Gaga co-stars and performs songs she co-wrote with Cooper and several other artists.
After Everything (Limited Release)
23-year-old Elliot (Jeremy Allen White) is at risk of dying from cancer. Mia (Maika Monroe) plays Elliot’s new girlfriend, who finds new meaning in her life through their relationship.
Bad Times at the El Royale
Seven strangers meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale. The ensemble cast includes Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, Cailee Spaeny, Lewis Pullman, Nick Offerman, and Chris Hemsworth.
Beautiful Boy (Limited Release)
Steve Carell stars as a father who helps his son (Timothée Chalamet) recover from meth addition. Co-starring Maura Tierney and Amy Ryan.
Burning (Limited Release)
A South Korean dramatic thriller. A young man becomes protective of a childhood neighbor after she reveals him that she had a crush on him when they were growing up together.
Can You Ever Forgive Me? (Limited Release)
A biographical movie based on the life of Lee Israel, a journalist who wrote profiles of high-achieving women. Starring Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant.
First Man
“First Man” is a biographical movie based on the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James R. Hansen. The film stars Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong.
Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween
A sequel to the 2015 film Goosebumps. The film stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Madison Iseman, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Caleel Harris, Chris Parnell, and Ken Jeong.
The Guilty (Limited Release)
In this Danish thriller, a 911 operator tries to solve a kidnapping from behind his desk.
Halloween
Set forty years after the 1979 original Halloween, Jamie Lee Curtis and Nick Castle reprise their roles as Laurie Strode and Michael Myers.
The Happy Prince (Limited Release)
Rupert Everett writes, directs and stars in this biography of Oscar Wilde. Colin Firth, Colin Morgan, Emily Watson, Edwin Thomas and Tom Wilkinson costar.
The Hate U Give
Amandla Stenberg stars as Starr Carter, who must balance her homelife in a poor, mostly black, neighborhood and her wealthy, predominantly white school.
Hunter Killer
The Russian President is captured by his own Defense Minister. A U.S Submarine is sent to rescue him. The film stars Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman, Michael Nyqvist, and Common.
Johnny English Strikes Again
This is third instalment of the Johnny English series, with Rowan Atkinson returning as the bungling secret agent.
Mid90s (Limited Release)
A 13-year-old boy in 1990s-era LA spends his summer navigating between his troubled home life and a new group of friends. Starring Sunny Suljic, Lucas Hedges and Katherine Waterston.
Serenity
Serenity is neo-noir thriller starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Diane Lane, Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Strong.

Venom is superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Venom stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom, with Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott.
What They Had (Limited Release)
A young woman travels back to her hometown to help her brother convince their father to put her Alzheimer’s-stricken mother in a nursing home. Starring Hilary Swank, Michael Shannon, Robert Forster, Blythe Danner, Taissa Farmiga, and Josh Lucas.
Wildlife (Limited Release)
Set in the 1960’s, a boy watches his parents’ marriage fall. Starring Carey Mulligan, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ed Oxenbould, and Bill Camp.
