Description

Rightfully described as the state’s greatest cultural gem, the North Carolina Museum of Art is home to a permanent collection of more than 5,000 objects spanning antiquity to the present day. The Museum recently expanded into a new 127,000 square-foot natural light-filled building. The 164-acre Museum campus is the nation’s largest art museum park, with walking paths, bike trails, ecological projects, and works of art.

The Museum outdoor theater has been home to the Summer Concert Series.

The Museum also hosts a number of events, including Lunch and LectureFilm SeriesChamber Music ConcertChildren’s PerformanceDrop-In Crafts, and Family Fun Saturday.

The Museum restaurant, the Iris, features contemporary American cuisine in a light-filled setting that looks out onto the entry court and surrounding gardens.

Tuesday – Thursday 10 am – 5 pm
Friday 10 am – 9 pm
Saturday – Sunday 10 am – 5 pm
Closed Mondays

The Museum Park is open daily, including holidays, from dawn to dusk.

The Museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Admission

Admission to the Museum’s permanent collection and Museum Park is free. There is a charge for some special exhibitions and programs, such as concerts, films, classes, and performances.

Parking

Visitor parking is free and available in the Blue Ridge Lot, on the right after entering the Museum drive.
