Best in Brass and Percussion

In preparation for their upcoming appearance at the NABBA (North American Brass Band Association) Championships, the Triangle Brass Band, and the Triangle Youth Percussion Ensemble present “Best in Brass and Percussion,” on Sunday, March 3, 2019 in the theatre at the Cary Arts Center. The Triangle Brass Band is under the direction of Artistic Director Tony Granados, and the Youth Percussion Ensemble, presenting their first performance for the season, is under the direction of Mr. Casey Sagolla-Slamp.

The Youth Percussion Ensemble opens the concert. Their ensemble competition work is “Sofapilla,” by Chuck Riccotta.  Some students will be presenting solos.  An Adult Ensemble, consisting of three percussionists from the Triangle Brass Band, performs “Steel Mask,” a new work by Principal, and Youth Percussion Ensemble Director, Casey Sagolla-Slamp.  This ensemble will also compete with “Steel Mask” at the NABBA Championships.  The Triangle Brass Band portion of the concert features tubist Dr. Joanna Ross Hersey, Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, and President of the International Women’s Brass Conference.  She performs an exciting new work, “Flight for Tuba and Brass Band,” by Peter Meechan, which was commissioned, in part, for Joanna Hersey and the Sampson All-County Band.
