Launch of the Fantastic Sky Race @ Wake County Parking Deck
412 South McDowell Street • Raleigh, NC 27601
First Friday Event Time: 5:30 pm
Wake County Public Libraries will be celebrating the recent addition of banners to the Wake County Parking deck on the corner of Davie and McDowell Street as a part of the August 5 First Friday Gallery Walk in downtown Raleigh. The public is invited to participate and the festivities begin at 5:30 pm. 15 colorful banners depicting “The Fantastic Sky Race” were erected in mid July around the building as an interim exterior shell to the building. Artists from the NCSU School of Design created the banners to win a contest sponsored by Empire Properties. The public libraries will be using the theme of the banners to promote programs and services at the library over the next year.
The artists, Justin T. Phillips, Joe Lawson, and Jordan Deva, will be present for the opening event to discuss the work and to interact with the public. In addition, the Wake County Public Libraries’ bookmobile will be on hand to register new members for library cards. Musical entertainment is planned and Empire Properties will be catering light appetizers for the occasion.
