To prevent identity theft and fraud in the Triangle community, the Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina is hosting the semi-annual “Secure Your ID” Day event in partnership with Coastal Credit Union and local partners Shred-It and GEEP . The event will be held at the Coastal Credit Union headquarters off Wake Forest Road in Raleigh on Saturday, October 26th, from 8 to 11:30 a.m., or until trucks are full. Local residents can take advantage of complimentary document shredding, recycling of your electronic devices, as well as tips to help protect your identity. To date, the “Secure Your ID” Day event has safely destroyed over 561,100 lbs. of sensitive documents and recycled over 144,000 lbs. of electronics.
All paper and devices to be destroyed or recycled can be collected by volunteers without the need to leave your car. People can bring up to three boxes/bags of confidential documents that have been removed from binders and up to five electric/electronic devices. Acceptable items include computers, cell phones, tablets, TVs, printers, fax machines, DVD/CD players, microwaves and toasters, and speakers less than 18 inches.
Non-acceptable items include liquids, loose batteries, thermostats, light bulbs, refrigerators, paint cans and all speakers larger than 18 inches.
