Triangle Brass Band presents “Pastime with Good Company”

The program features the group’s principal percussionist, Matthew Barbee, performing the tour-de-force composition “The Tongs and the Bones,” by English composer Derek Bourgeois.  In this exciting work, the soloist moves about the stage, playing the Vibraphone, Toms, Temple Blocks, Cowbells, Cymbal and Marimba, with barely enough time to set down one set of mallets and pick up another!  Mr. Barbee, a graduate of Virginia Tech (B.A.) and East Carolina University (M.M), both degrees in percussion performance, is sure to give an amazing performance.  The remainder of the Triangle Brass Band’s program includes: “Festive Overture,” by Dmitri Shostakovich, “Pastime with Good Company” (attributed to Henry VIII of England), “Arsenal March,” by Belgian composer Jan Van der Roost, and the lovely “Sunrise Over Blue Ridge” by Dan Price.  Also featured are selections from Verdi’s “Requiem Mass,” as arranged for brass band by former Triangle Brass Band Director, Dr. James Hile.
