SUMMARY:The Cory Band North American Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Cory Band\, under the direction of the charismatic Philip Harper\, from Wales\, England\, is the top-ranked British-style brass band in the world. They are the current British National Champions\, European Champions\, Brass in Concert Champions and are back-to-back winners of the British Open Championship in 2018 and 2019. They made a North American tour three years ago and played to sold-out houses in six cities. They are returning to Raleigh\, to perform in Meymandi Concert Hall\, in the Duke Energy Center\, on Wednesday\, October 30th\, one of only four stops on this year’s tour.  The concert begins at 7:00 pm.  They are exceptional musicians and remarkable ambassadors for the tradition of brass banding.

DESCRIPTION:To prevent identity theft and fraud in the Triangle community\, the Better Business Bureau serving Eastern North Carolina is hosting the semi-annual “Secure Your ID” Day event in partnership with Coastal Credit Union and local partners Shred-It and GEEP . The event will be held at the Coastal Credit Union headquarters off Wake Forest Road in Raleigh on Saturday\, October 26th\, from 8 to 11:30 a.m.\, or until trucks are full. Local residents can take advantage of complimentary document shredding\, recycling of your electronic devices\, as well as tips to help protect your identity. To date\, the “Secure Your ID” Day event has safely destroyed over 561\,100 lbs. of sensitive documents and recycled over 144\,000 lbs. of electronics. \nAll paper and devices to be destroyed or recycled can be collected by volunteers without the need to leave your car. People can bring up to three boxes/bags of confidential documents that have been removed from binders and up to five electric/electronic devices. Acceptable items include computers\, cell phones\, tablets\, TVs\, printers\, fax machines\, DVD/CD players\, microwaves and toasters\, and speakers less than 18 inches. \nNon-acceptable items include liquids\, loose batteries\, thermostats\, light bulbs\, refrigerators\, paint cans and all speakers larger than 18 inches.

DESCRIPTION:This exhibition features 45 photographs\, spanning the 20th century\, by six internationally renowned photographers who focused their cameras on Mexico: Manuel Álvarez Bravo\, Manuel Carrillo\, Flor Garduño\, Graciela Iturbide\, Paul Strand\, and Mariana Yampolsky.  \nMexico’s landscapes\, history\, and culture have inspired photographers since the advent of the medium. Álvarez Bravo started his career in Mexico City in the 1920s and became one of the leading modernist photographers and teachers. He influenced several generations of Mexican photographers\, including Carrillo\, Iturbide\, and Garduño\, as well as American photographers who worked in Mexico\, like Strand and Yampolsky.  \nMexico has a complex cultural history and has undergone social\, political\, and ideological transformations during the modern era. DESCRIPTION:Frida Kahlo\, Diego Rivera\, and Mexican Modernism from the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Collection present the paintings of two icons of the 20th century. Few artists have captured the public’s imagination with the force of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907–54) and her husband\, the Mexican painter and muralist Diego Rivera (1886–1957). The myths that surrounded them in their lifetime arose not only from their significant bodies of work but also from their friendships (and conflicts) with leading political figures and their passionate\, tempestuous personal relationships. \nKahlo and Rivera’s works are varied in scope and inspiration: she is best known for her self-portraits\, while he worked as a large-scale muralist in Mexico and the United States. Kahlo’s work is deeply personal\, often depicting her own dreams\, painful personal experiences\, and affinity with Mexican culture\, while Rivera’s pursues larger looks at the history and cultural revolution.
