Beatlemania at the NCMA!

Our summer concert series kicks off with a music/movie combo that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ U.S. debut on the Ed Sullivan Show. The night starts with a performance by “1964: The Tribute,” called “the best Beatles tribute on Earth” by Rolling Stone magazine, and ends with a screening of “Good Ol’ Freda,” a charming new documentary about Beatles confidante and official fan club manager Freda Kelly. This film is the first time Kelly has shared personal stories about her time with the Beatles.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ U.S. debut on the Ed Sullivan Show, the NCMA presents the group Rolling Stone magazine called “the best Beatles tribute on Earth,” a group that sold out Carnegie Hall 11 times.1964: The Tribute captures the look and sound of an early 1960s Beatles concert with spine-tingling effect. Few of us were fortunate enough to see The Beatles perform live, and those who did could hardly hear the lads over the screams. 1964: The Tribute will make you believe.

The live performance will be followed by a screening of Good Ol’ Freda, a new documentary about the Beatles’ official fan club manager, who became a confidante and friend to all four members of the band. Beatles manager Brian Epstein hired 17-year-old Freda Kelly as his secretary because she took the fans seriously and kept the band’s secrets with absolute integrity and faithfulness. She never wrote a book or allowed interviews after the Fab Four broke up, until now.
