Skip the bug spray and sunburns-this summer camp is strictly for the crafty! Ornamentea’s enameling camp is four days of learning, creating and making. There will be no tents, no goofy camp songs, no red team/blue team hijinks. There will be lots of learning in a supportive and encouraging environment. You’ll love what you make, and love the fun you have learning about Torch Fired Enamels!
Enameling is a century’s old technique of fusing glass to metal. Traditionally, enameling is a kiln-centric art form. Torch firing makes this technique incredibly accessible to all. In this 4-day workshop you will learn basic enameling practices using a torch. You’ll leave with a solid understanding of how you can incorporate torch-firing methods into your jewelry and take home some beautiful new jewelry to wear.
In camp you’ll work with sifting methods, experiment with firing times, play with various techniques for applying powdered enamels-opaque and transparent – including sgraffito. You will explore applying enamel over different types of texture, including etched and hammered surfaces.
Not a metal smith? Don’t worry, basic texturing and forming will be covered in the class. More experienced metal workers will have the opportunity try some new things or refine techniques as they make their components to be enameled.
