Triangle Youth Brass Bands Present “Esprit de Corps”

With a spirit of enthusiasm and unity, the Triangle Youth Brass Bands present their season finale, Esprit de Corps. The concert takes place on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 8:00 pm in Meymandi Concert Hall, in the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.  Both Youth Brass Bands recently competed with distinction at the 2016 North American Brass Band Association Championships, held in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  The Triangle Youth Brass Band, under the direction of Jesse Rackley, placed 2^nd in the Third Section (a section for adult bands), and the Triangle Academy Youth Brass Band, directed by Matthew Edwards, placed 2^nd in the Youth section.  Additionally, the TYABB Brass Quintet placed 1^st in the Youth Brass Ensemble category, and the TYBB Tuba Quartet placed 3^rd in this category.  The TYBB percussion ensemble placed 2^nd in the Youth Percussion Ensemble category.

The Triangle Youth Percussion Ensemble, directed by Benjamin Russell, opens the concert.  Featured works for the Triangle Youth Academy Brass Band include Howarth’s Berne Patrol, Meditation by Paul McGee and, Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s Dark Side of the Moon.  The Triangle Youth Brass Band’s program includes Introduction to Act III from Lohengrin, by Richard Wagner, Philip Sparke’s Suite from Hymn of the Highlands, and Finale from Symphony No. 2 by Gustav Mahler.  The TYBB also presents a featured soloist – Jacob Stephens, a senior at Bunn High School, who performs Despidida by Ney Rosauro, on Marimba.  Jacob, who plans to attend UNC-G in the fall as a music major, recently placed 3^rd in the Youth Percussion Solo NABBA competition.
