The revamped City of Raleigh Neighborhood Improvement Funds program now makes neighborhood-based groups eligible to receive up to $1,000 for improvement projects.
Neighborhood associations, homeowners associations, neighborhood watch groups, garden clubs, and others are eligible to apply for the funds.
The Improvement Funds program offers two levels of funding for neighborhood projects:
Level I provides up to $250 and does not require neighborhood groups to provide a matching amount. Neighbors do not have to belong to an organization to apply for Level I funds.
Level II provides up to $1,000 and requires neighborhood organizations to provide a match to help cover the costs of a project. The match can come through any combination of volunteer labor, donations, and fundraising. Neighborhoods in the City of Raleigh’s Conservation and Development Areas must provide 25 percent of a project’s cost; other neighborhoods must cover at least 50 percent of the cost.
The application period runs through June 1, 2012.
