Triangle Brass Bands Present “Freedom of Choice”

March 26, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

$12 – $17

The Triangle Brass Band, under the direction of Artistic Director Tony Granados, presents “Freedom of Choice” on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 4:00 pm at Meymandi Concert Hall in the Duke Energy Center, 2 East South Street, in downtown Raleigh.

The program features special guest artist, trumpet virtuoso Jens Lindemann, who has been described as “part ballet dancer, part gymnast and part magician…”  Jens, who was recently named “International Brass Personality of the Year” by the Brass Herald, is also the first classical trumpet player to receive the prestigious Order of Canada award.

The featured work for Mr. Lindemann on the program is Peter Meechan’s “Orpheus,” a Trumpet Concerto written specifically for him.  He will also perform other works, some solo, some accompanied by a small ensemble, and some accompanied by the full Triangle Brass Band.  The core works for the Triangle Brass Band are “Journey into Freedom” by Eric Ball and “Finale to Symphony Number 5” by Shostakovich.

A unique feature of this concert is that the second half of the program is chosen by the audience.  A number of excellent works, many featuring Jens Lindemann, are on the ballot, and the concert-goers in the hall get to choose what they want to hear.  To round-out a fantastic concert, the Triangle Brass Band will be joined by members of their award-winning Youth Brass Bands for the grand finale!
